Angela Burt-Murray

Angela Burt-Murray is an award-winning author and screenwriter with extensive experience developing TV, digital and social media programming for women. As the former Editor-in-Chief of Time Warner’s ESSENCE magazine, she oversaw the company’s editorial platforms and produced live events like the ESSENCE Music Festival. She has also produced reality TV series and news specials for CNN, MSNBC and TV ONE. She has also interviewed such notable personalities as President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, Bono, Issa Rae, Tyler Perry, Oprah and Beyonce.

She is the co-author of the novel, The Vow, which was turned into the Lifetime Network movie, WITH THIS RING starring Gabrielle Union and Jill Scott. Angela also authored the bestselling thriller “Games Divas Play” which was optioned by BET as the breakout TV series GAMES PEOPLE PLAY starring Lauren London and is the creator and writer for a second TV series, HUSH on AMC’s AllBLK. She has written three BET movies: the social media thriller FRIEND REQUEST (2020), HOLIDAY HEIST (2019), THE CHRISTMAS LOTTERY (2020) and developed the treatment for the romantic comedy ANGRILY EVER AFTER (2019). Angela wrote three holiday movies for OWN: COOKING UP CHRISTMAS (2020), A CHRISTMAS FUMBLE (2022) and GREAT HOLIDAY BAKE WAR (2022). She is currently writing three new movies for BET, which will premiere in 2023 and a Hallmark project.

Angela previously served as VP and Editorial Director for Viacom’s BET.com, Deputy Editor at Conde Nast’s GLAMOUR magazine and interim General Manager for Magic Johnson’s Aspire cable network. She also appeared as a co-host for three seasons on the talk show EXHALE and frequently appeared on CNN, Good Morning America, The Steve Harvey Morning Show and The Today Show.

Angela is a graduate of Hampton University and holds a bachelor’s degree in finance. She is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and served on the board of Planned Parenthood Southeast. She resides in Atlanta.
